CILT-India,
earlier known as Chartered Institute of Transport(CIT-India),
is an independent National Council of the Chartered
Institute of Logistics and Transport, an 28
years old world wide organisation with Headquarters
in London.
CILT-India is organising the 10th CILT International
Conference in New Delhi. The theme of the Conference
is "Strategic Cost Reduction Through Effective
Supply Chain Management"
|
With
the 8.2% growth of the Indian economy
for the year ended March 31, 2003 and
the forecast of analysts that there will
be at least a 7% growth in 2004-2005,
the national economy is definitely upbest.
The manufacturing sector registered a
growth of 7.3% in 2003-2004. With this
kind of growth supply chain management
has a very prominent part to play in the
current year and years ahead. Technological
developments,especially in information
technology and market requirements are
throwing up opportunities for a range
of players in different activities. There
will be renewed interest, for example,
in third party logistics provides for
wide market segments, specialised logistics
service providers and vehicle, container
and storage technologies. The success
of players in these and other activities
will hinge on the ability of various players
to leverage supply chain effectiveness
from their actions. Co-ordination and
integrated functioning of various supply
chain entities is no longer an unachievable
task, given the developments in modem
IT and communication. |
