Role
of CIT-India: The efficient management of freight
and passenger transport in a country affects logistics,
the economy and the quality of life intimately. It
is important that all organisation involved in the
planning, operation and management of transport and
logistics and commercial transport in the various
modes should be well qualified, trained and updated
with the latest technological developments globally.
The basic areas to be covered should include transport
technology, educational, research and allied activities.
Qualitative and quantitative tools have now become
highly sophisticated with the help of Operations Research,
information Technology and various other branches
of specialisation which have developed rapidly in
recent years. As such the updating of transport technology
is a must for efficient survival in the present day
of a highly competitive environment.
In
India almost all the modes of transport are operative
and some of them namely, road, rail, inland water
transport and shipping have been in existence for
quite some time and well developed whereas civil aviation,
pipelines and aerial ropeways are of recent origin
and growing rapidly. The activities of different modes
are being coordinated and developed under the aegis
of individual institutions who are looking after the
individual transport modes. Unfortunately there is
no professional body in the country to provide a common
forum for all the transport modes to come on a single
platform for the purposes of coordination, effective
planning, economic design and research organisation
for the transport system. We should recognise that
the problems confronting them and possible solutions
are similar for either an individual industry or the
country as a whole and for the preservation of ecology.
CIT-India is an ideal forum for bridging the gap where
all modes of transporters and experts are members
and the common problems, solutions and requirements
for the transport and logistics industry can be discussed,
debated, developed and the most efficient and economical
system designed for the country. CIT-India as part
of CIT International also offers an opportunity for
international exchange of information, experience,
technology and ideas for mutual benefits.
